How to Get Rid of Mice

Do you have mice in your house, and do you need to know how to get rid of them? Mice can be an extreme nuisance, and they can eat large quantities of food among other problems. Yet, mice are difficult to get rid of because they frequently travel through the walls, or in places where they are hard to even see. You may not even realize that you have mice.

Luckily, there are effective ways at removing the mice in your house. First, mice love a messy or cluttered house. This is because it gives the mice more places to hide and more freedom with transportation through rooms. Thus, the first step towards eliminating mice in your house is cleaning your house of any clutter. This includes clothing lying around on the floor, or papers littered throughout a room.

You also need to clean your kitchen. Mice can survive on merely the scraps that you leave on the floor. Make sure to sweep your floor after you cook, and don’t leave any food out on the counter that is not packaged or covered. Further, if you have mice, you should transfer all your food into sealable containers. Mice chew through cereal boxes to get to the food. Transfer your cereal or grains into sealable containers.

If you have mice, you should also try to figure out where they are coming from. Check your house for holes in the wall, or for openings in your foundation. Mice can even get into apartments through the radiators. Once you find an opening, seal it closed and you might have shut the door on your mice.

If you live in a house, you should consider keeping your lawn tidy. Mice do not like to travel through short grass, and this small tip might keep future mice from crossing into your household.

If All Else Fails

Consider purchasing a mouse trap to catch your mice. There are different types of mouse traps, and some are more effective than others.

  • A glue trap, or a sticky trap, catches the mouse, and the mouse dies overnight. You have to put bait on the trap to catch the mouse. Put the trap in areas through which you know the mouse travels.
  • A wire trap lures the mouse into the trap, and then snaps down on it and kills the mouse.
  • A Havahart mouse trap catches the mouse without hurting it, and then you can release the mouse back into the wild. However, these types of traps are more expensive than other traps, and they frequently cost approximately fourteen dollars for a trap.

Consequences If You Have Mice

Sharing your home with mice can have major consequences:

  • They eat the food in your kitchen, or food that you may keep in your bedroom.
  • They leave droppings throughout your house, which can both smell and are extremely unsterile.
  • They chew through wires or cables in your house. This can be expensive, as they may destroy the wires and you will have to replace them.
  • Some mice carry dangerous diseases. Scientists discovered that some mice droppings carry the Hantavirus. The Hantavirus causes Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Frighteningly, the Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is fatal in over half of the human cases.

Now that you know how to get rid of mice, you can eliminate them from your home!
