Does Borax Get Rid of Fleas?

Does borax get rid of fleas? Maybe. It depends on the level of your flea problem and whether you know how to use borax properly or not.

Borax is a salt of boric acid and though it is weak enough to be used safely for many household applications, including as a detergent for different cleaning applications, it’s also a very inexpensive household remedy for fleas.

Most flea infestation experts immediately advise the use of expensive and harmful “bug bomb” treatments that contaminate your house with different harsh chemicals in order to deal with a flea infestation. However, with the proper application of borax, you can get rid of the pesky insects yourself, saving money and a lot of hassle.

Steps to Use Borax to Get Rid of Fleas

So, how do you use borax to get rid of fleas?

  • First, you have to locate the areas that are the highest concentration of the infestation.
  • In the highly infested areas, do a small application, or “spot check”, to ensure that the borax won’t discolor or harm the area you’re applying it to.
  • Once this preliminary test is done, apply the powdered detergent to the entire area.
  • Apply the borax using a bristled brush or a broom to push the powder deeply into the affected area.
  • Once the powder has settled into the area for a period of 24 to 48 hours, you can vacuum the area clean.
  • Do not let pets or kids play in the borax-coated area until it has been thoroughly cleaned up.

So, now you know that borax can get rid of fleas. With the right precautions and a little elbow grease, you can eliminate or reduce your flea problem.
