Clearly, there are quite a variety of dog breeds. In fact, if you were to count all of them up, you would find that there are nearly 200 breeds. Now you might be wondering how on earth you would ever be able to pick out which type of dog you want!

Selecting the Right Dog for You

Considering a new dog? Here are a few things to consider:

  • You need to evaluate the needs of your family. Do you want a watch dog? A guard dog? Do you need either of those?
  • Think about any children or other pets living in the home. You need to find an animal who is suitable to live with other people or animals.
  • Consider any allergies that anyone living in the house might have.
  • Think about the size of the dog
  • How much time you will be able to spend with the dog
  • How strong it is
  • If you have the space for the dog.

Discussing your needs and abilities with a professional is a great idea if you cannot decide which breed to get.
