What Is the Smallest Dog in the World?

Big dogs, hairy dogs, skinny dogs, strong dogs, and tall dogs roam the planet. The smallest dog in the world lives in Largo, Florida.

Who She Is

The smallest verifiable dog in the world is named Heaven Sent Brandy. She has been measured at a tiny six inches long, which is 15.2 centimeters for those of you who use the metric system. Heaven Sent Brandy is half the size of a 12 inch long ruler. She was measured on January 31, 2005.

We are proud to say that the owner of the smallest dog in the world lives in the US. Heaven Sent Brandy resides in Largo, Florida, with her owner, Paulette Keller. Heaven Sent Brandy is a Chihuahua.

Some Competition

Note that Heaven Sent Brandy is the smallest "verifiable" dog in the world. Now, of course, we do not want to take any honors away from precious Heaven Sent Brandy, but we do have to give credit to another dog named Elwood.

Elwood's measurements need to be confirmed by Guinness. They have to wait until dogs wait one year of age to confirm measurements, since the animal could still be growing at that time. However, if everything is correct and the measurements are confirmed, Elwood will be tied with Heaven Sent Brandy for the smallest dog in the world in terms of length. He measures in at only three and a half inches tall! He is six inches long and weighs only 15 ounces.

There is something else quite interesting about Elwood as well. You might have suspicions about what breed he is; however, you are probably going to be surprised to learn that this little one is a Jack Russell Terrier!
