• Hewett began his career in 1979 after meeting Jodi Watley and Jeffrey Daniel, and forming the highly popular R&B group Shalamar.
• The group disbanded in 1985, and Hewett went on to pursue a recognized career as a solo artist.
• Over the course of the next twenty years, Hewett went on to accumulate quite a few hit records, ranging from R&B titles that were #2 on the Billboard charts to hit gospel and inspirational records that also made the top 10 on the Billboard charts for gospel music.
• Hewett also contributed his lyrical aptitude to other artists in that time, including Latoya Jackson for her 1984 single “Heart Don’t Lie.”
• It was shortly after the Shalamar breakup that Hewett met his second wife, Mari Molina, who he married in February of 1986. That marriage proved to be fruitless, as she filed for divorce and the marriage was annulled by the end of that same year.
• In 1989, he was married to fellow female recording artist Nia Peeples, and they had a son whom they named Christopher in 1990. It would be only three years later that the two would be divorced, ending their marriage in 1993. Five years would go by before Hewett would marry again.  
• During that time, Hewett recorded a solo album and worked on many collaborative projects, also recording the theme song for the short lived television sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.”
• Hewett also released the solo album “It’s Time” in the UK, after which he decided to stop recording solo and give more to other artists.
• It was during this time that he met his current wife Angela, with whom he had his youngest daughter, Anissa.
• Hewett now lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife and their children, and he tours around the United States to perform at roughly 180 concerts a year.
