David Letterman's first wife was named Michelle Cook. She was Letterman's college girlfriend and he married her in 1969. Letterman was married to her for a period of eight years before getting divorced in 1977. 

David Letterman's Subsequent Relationships

David Letterman has had a notoriously complex love life. After divorcing Michelle Cook, he had a long affair with a woman named Merrill Markoe, who did some writing and acting for his show and was affiliated with him through work. He then had a girlfriend of 23 years, Regina Lasko, who worked for him and with whom he had a son. She became his second wife.

After he married Lasko, there was a scandal where he was cheating on Lasko with a number of staffers and others in a secret love nest above his offices at CBS.
