What Former WWF Wrestlers are Deceased?

There are a number of wrestlers who were members of the WWF who have passed away. Let's look at some of these deceased WWF wrestlers, as well as some information about deaths in professional wrestling.

A USA Today article published in 2004 indicates that there are a startling number of individuals in the field of professional wrestling who die at a relatively young age. In fact, the article suggests that wrestlers have death rates as high as 7 times the National Average.

There are a number of reasons for this, ranging from the risks of the job to the individual’s personal habits to the encouragement of steroid use in the field of wrestling. Whatever the reason, the fact remains that engaging in wrestling clearly has some dangers to your physical health.

It is, therefore, no surprise that there are a lot of former WWF wrestlers who have passed away and many of them have died before their time.

Wrestlers Who have Passed Away

  • Some of the most famous WWF/WWE wrestlers that have passed away in recent years are Junk Yard Dog Sylvester Ritter, who was 45, and Ravishing Rick Rude, or Richard Rood, who died at the age of 40.
  • One of the most famous wrestling deaths occurred in 1999 when Owen Hart fell 78 feet to his death in front of a live crowd. 
  • Another widely publicized death that shed some light on the use of steroids in the professional wrestling racket was Chris Benoit’s, who killed both his wife and his son before killing himself in 2007.
  • Another famous wrestler known for his enormity was Yokozuna, who died as a result of fluid in his lungs in 2000.
  • One of the more mysterious deaths in the WWE lineup was that of The Big Boss Man, whose true cause of death was never revealed to the public. He died at the age of 41 in 2004.
