Who Owns Ditech?

Ditech is owned by GMAC Financial, also commonly known as General Motors Auto Credit. GMAC Financial is the division of General Motors that handles credit applications as well as mortgages and other financial vehicles which are distributed and held by the company.

Ditech was purchased by GMAC in 1999, and has been owned by them ever since. Although GMAC Financial owns Ditech, Ditech continues to operate under the name of Ditech. The company kept its name because of the brand recognition already achieve by the Ditech name.

Ditech grew in popularity and gained brand recognition because of their commercials where a frustrated non Ditech lending officer would quote a couple a very high rate on a mortgage, and then at the last minute the couple would discover that Ditech could save them hundreds of dollars a month.  The loan officer would get a call from them and he would say “Lost another one to Ditech,” and then the 800 number would roll across the screen.

Ditech was originally a California corporation and continues to offer mortgages based out of the state of California, although it can offer mortgages anywhere that the company is licensed to operate.  There have, however, been a number of complaints about GMAC and Ditech as far as not really offering the best rates and other issues.
