There are many different offerings across the web that are similar in certain ways to the popular YouTube website. Many have similar features to those found on YouTube, while others merely provide storage for online videos.
YouTube is the most referenced, highly popular video sharing website on the Internet. There are no other video sites that are exactly like YouTube in terms of volume of content or number of years that videos have been posted.
With as popular as the YouTube website is, though, it’s no wonder there is a growing list of websites that offer basically the same service or services that are similar. Of course, few services are able to provide the grand scale of data and information YouTube has in video format. But, here are a few other offerings to consider for sites which are similar to YouTube.
PhotoBucket
One of the more popular websites that is used for free user image and video sharing is Photobucket.
- Photobucket, like YouTube, allows you to upload your pictures into albums and to notify your friends that you’ve posted new content.
- Much like YouTube, in order to upload material you must have a registered account with the website. There is no cost to register your account.
- The uploading process is relatively easy. As long as the material you want to upload is saved in your computer or on an external device, you can upload it to an online album and display your videos easily.
- Photobucket is a more personally-oriented website than YouTube, so you can’t simply go to the website’s homepage and browse videos and albums like you can on YouTube.
Metacafe
Another website alternative to YouTube for those seeking a video posting and sharing website is called Metacafe.
- In many ways, Metacafe is much more similar to YouTube than Photobucket, in that pictures aren’t a shared medium on this website.
- The main medium on Metacafe is video, and you can browse the public community’s postings or you can create your own account and post your content to share with the people you have listed as your peers.
- There are movie clips, music videos, latest and breaking news from around the world, and updated sports coverage videos provided, and like YouTube, Metacafe is free of charge.
Flickr
Another popular site that allows you to share your videos as well as watch others’ is called Flickr.
- This website is more Photobucket-oriented than video-oriented, in that by creating an account you can upload either video or photo content
- Using Flickr, you can also search other people’s albums and view their uploaded content. This website has a more “person-to-person” feel than YouTube, where anyone can see your videos and comment on them as they wish.
Using YouTube
On YouTube, you can watch user and artist uploaded videos, music videos, how-to videos, and even home videos with the entire Internet community. Millions of people access the YouTube website every day to browse other people’s videos as well as upload their own.
You now have a list of other sites like YouTube so you can expand your online media horizons.
