Information on Some of the Renaissance Artists

Leonardo da Vinci

It is almost impossible to discuss Renaissance artists without paying some attention to da Vinci, who is probably one of the best known Renaissance painters.

He was born on April 15, 1452, and lived until May 2, 1519. Throughout his life, not only was he a renowned artist, but he also made advances in the following fields as well:

  • Science
  • Math
  • Architecture
  • Music
  • Engineering
  • Geology
  • Botany
  • Writing

Clearly, his talents were wide and numerous, which is a major reason why he is so celebrated and remembered.

John of Kastav

Little is known about this somewhat mysterious man. However, we do know that he was born in Kastav, a part of Croatia. While we may not know a lot about him, his major work is quite popular. He is the one who created the paintings which stand in the Church of the Holy Trinity located in Hrastovlje. Amongst the most famous of his work in this location is his Danse Macabre piece.

Andrea Solari

When we look at da Vinci, we should also make mention of this artist. Solari was one of the most prominent followers of da Vinci, so his training was considerable and notable. One of his most well known paintings is entitled The Virgin of the Green Cushion, which was created in the year 1507, when Solari was 47 years old.

Fra Angelico

One of the earliest Renaissance painters, Angelico arrived in the world in 1395, although the exact date is unknown. He was a very religious and dedicated man throughout his life, which led Pope John Paul II to confer beatification upon this man in 1982. Clearly, his legacy lived on as this beatification occurred many, many years after Fra Angelico's death.
