Luciano Pavarotti performed several styles of music during his career; however he was best known for singing one style during his career.

Luciano Pavarotti sang mostly opera, even though he did not always do so. He occasionally sang love songs and other popular songs.
His most famous song was “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini's opera Turandot. He sang it at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, as it was the theme song for the tournament. The recording of the Three Tenors concert (Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras) performed at the end of the tournament became the best-selling album of all time.
What makes Pavarotti’s performance rise about all the rest is his energy, emotion, clarity, tone quality, phrasing, and more. Some things that a great singer needs simply cannot be taught because they come from the heart and soul.
Luciano Pavarotti was born in 1935 near Modena, Italy. His father was a baker and amateur tenor and his mother worked at a cigar factory. He came from a poor family of four who was forced out of the city during World War II, and then lived on a farm. His father was a great influence on him, and did not pursue a career as a singer because of his nervousness.
Luciano began singing in a church choir but wanted to pursue a career as a football goalkeeper. His mother convinced him to train as a teacher instead, and after college, he taught for two years. He began to study music at the age of 19, where he learned he had perfect pitch. He decided to become a professional singer after winning first prize at the International Eisteddfod in Wales.
At one time, he almost quit singing when a nodule appeared on his vocal chords. When this happened, he decided to quit singing and the nodule disappeared. He explained in his autobiography that this gave him a psychological release and everything came together with his natural voice to produce the sound he had been struggling to make.
His teachers were Arrigo Pola and Ettore Campogalliani. His operatic debut in Italy was in 1961 and his American debut was in 1965. His popularity exploded after his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in 1972 where he received standing ovations. The rest of his career was filled with breaking records and sold out performances.
He died of pancreatic cancer on September 6, 2007 at his home in Modena.
