What Holiday Follows Halloween?

Halloween, also known by some as Day of the Dead, is immediately followed by All Saints Day on November 1. This is followed by All Souls Day on November 2.

For Catholics, All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation, meaning that all Catholics must attend mass on this day. In addition, they must refrain from working and rest their minds and bodies. In some countries, however, this requirement is transferred to the next Sunday depending on the day of the week that the holiday falls on.

The purpose of All Saints Day, or the Feast of All Saints, is to honor all of the known and unknown saints that have come before us.

While it is true that many individual saints are honored throughout the year on specific days, there are thousands of canonized saints. This means that there are many that do not have their own special day or have been forgotten over time. In addition, there are many people deserving of sainthood that have not yet achieved it. For these reasons, this day has been set aside to honor them.

Traditionally, Catholics believe that saints intercede on their behalf with Jesus Christ because the saints are closer to him than those on earth. Since the saints are constantly working on for them, it seemed right to honor them with a Holy Day. This has been done since the second century AD.

This holiday can be compared to secular holidays such as Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, or Labor Day in which those who have done great deeds are honored collectively rather than just individually.
