What is Oregon's Population?

The United States Census Bureau collects data and information on populations and demographics across all 50 states in the US. According to their Quick Facts about Oregon, the state has had a population of 3,825,657 people as of 2009. These are, of course, esimates based on Census data and may have changed since 2009.

The Census Bureau reports that Oregon's population (of just over 3.8 million people in 2009) represents an 11.8 percent increase in the population since 2000.

In addition to providing information about Oregon's population, the Census Bureau also reports a number of other facts about Oregon including:

  • The amount of people who own their homes topped 64% percent as of 2000 estimates, so Oregon has one of the highest home ownership rates of all of the states in the U.S.  
  • The state of Oregon is predominantly white in population, with 89% of the state reporting citizens of Caucasian decent as of 2009. Only 2% of the population reported as African American in 2009 estimates. Even fewer of the state’s residents are of Native American or Alaskan Indian decent, with 1.6% of the residents reporting a Native heritage in 2009.  
  • Oregon also has one of the higher percentages of college graduate residents of the U.S. Over 25% of the adult residents of Oregon have at least a Bachelor’s Degree. The majority of the residents are high school graduates, with a percentage of 85% having received a diploma.
