What Are the Homeschooling Requirements?

Education requirements and standards are created by the state government, not the federal government. Therefore, the homeschooling requirements are different in each of the 50 states. New York

• Students must receive the equivalent of 180 days of instruction every school year.
• Parents must file annual assessments, of which there are several options for testing methods.
• Elementary students must take courses in reading, spelling, writing, arithmetic, geography, United States history, English, health education, music, visual arts, science, and physical education.
• Absences are permitted on the same basis as they are permitted in the local public school district of the child.
• If a child is not meeting the requirements, then the home instruction system can be placed on probation for up to two years.

Florida

• The parent is not required to have a valid Florida teaching certificate.
• A portfolio of the students assignments and records must be kept at all times.
• If students meet certain requirements, they are allowed to participate in the extracurricular activities provided by the public school district.
• Testing centers and the like are able to provide services to students who are home schooled.
• The parent of the homeschooled students need to notify the school district of their intentions regarding how to educate their child.
• If a home education program is ending, a formal notification must be sent to the school as well.

Wisconsin

• A home-based program implemented to more than one family member does not constitute a private home-based education program.
• The homeschooling program needs to provide at least 875 hours of instruction and education every year.
• The Department of Public Instruction does not provide assistance and consultations regarding homeschooling systems in this state. People who need that sort of advice are given a different telephone number to call.
• Instruction in reading, art, language, math, science, health, and social studies is deemed as necessary.
• Home educators can include or exclude any sort of religious doctrines that they wish.

Nevada

• A notice of intent to homeschool must be filed with the Superintendent of Schools in the child's home school district.
• Requests for the records of a homeschooled child must not be processed any more than five days after receiving the request.
• Schools and organizations cannot discriminate against any child who is currently being homeschooled or any child who has been homeschooled.
• The district will keep up-to-date information on their website regarding any sorts of exams or the likewise that all students, including homeschooled ones, near to be aware of.
• Homeschooled children can take the High School Proficiency Examination.
