Is There a State Board Test Review for Cosmetology?

Is there a state board test review for cosmetology? Anyone thinking about entering into a course of study in the field of cosmetology needs to consider the answer to this question.   Obtaining a cosmetology license is one of the most labor-intensive technical degrees you can obtain. After you’ve completed either your full-time college course or your two-year apprenticeship program, in order to become a licensed cosmetologist you’ll have to prove to the state licensing board that you are knowledgeable in your field and that your education was retained. You need to do this by passing the state board’s examination.

This means that the answer is yes, there is a state board test review for cosmetology:

  • This exam is mandatory in every state in order to become licensed.
  • Every state has its own requirements pertaining to the number of required classroom hours and the number of apprentice hours before you can sit for the test. States also impose standards to ensure you have achieved the successful completion of your accredited cosmetology course before you can sit for the state cosmetology exam.
  • In many cases, this means you’ll have to have a certain number of hands-on training hours in order to even qualify to take your board’s licensing exam.

Other Testing

At the conclusion of your education, you’ll generally also be required to successfully pass the required “mock” boards test and the written test that is required by many education programs as a condition of graduation. These tests are often referred to as your review tests, and schools administer them in hopes that the two tests will prepare you for your final licensing exam.

Once you’ve obtained your license, you may also have to participate in a continuing education class, which is a means of keeping your knowledge current and making sure you continue to keep your skills sharp.
