How Many Teaching Hours per Day in Thailand?

Teaching hours in Thailand are approximately seven per day.

The number of teaching hours at a school in Thailand is approximately seven hours. Younger students begin their day at 8:30am and end at 3:45pm. Older students start at 8:45pm and end at 3:45pm.

Teaching during these hours is just the basic job description of a teacher at a Thailand school. The classes are not the only events occuring during a day at school. Let us take a quick look at how the day progresses at a school in Thailand, in order to get a feel for the total teaching hours per day in Thailand and how long some teachers might actually be at the school.

5:45am

Yes, that's right. You might have thought you had it bad when you had to wake up at 7:00am for school, but quite a few students in Thailand are already at their schools by 5:45 in the morning. Of course, this hour of the day is not required; however, many parents work quite a distance from the school. Therefore, the schools are open at this time and the children can come and watch television or play on the computer before the actual school day begins.

Teachers and the majority of students will not arrive until around 7:00am. At this point, the students may go up to their classrooms. Although the teacher is not teaching any lessons at this time, he or she is still in charge of a classroom full of children.

7:30am

By 7:30, everyone is in the school and the loudspeakers start playing with a countdown for the National Anthem. At exactly 8:00am, everyone gathers for the National Anthem. This is true not only in schools, but in places of business, trains, and so forth all around Thailand. Even if the students have not yet made it to the area designated for the National Anthem, they have to stop wherever they are and sing along.

After the National Anthem, students will engage in morning prayers. They face the Buddhist shrine to do so.

School Day

The typical school day in Thailand consists of six periods in which a different lesson is scheduled for each period.

After the sixth period ends, many of the students go home. However, some of them opt to take a seventh class, which continues on for another 50 minutes.

After School

Some students will be in after school care when the official school day ends. Most students head home by 5:00pm. Those who are still there at 6:00pm will stop to sing the National Anthem again. By 6:30pm, all of the students are gone. As you can see, a day at a school in Thailand is quite lengthy!
