Knowing what to wear to a high school reunion can be tricky. Everyone wants to look great when seeing their old classmates. Exactly what you wear will depend on the type of reunion it is – for example, an afternoon in the park will require very different clothes than a fancy dinner party.
Each high school reunion is a different type of event and some may be much more formal than others, so there are a few principles to keep in mind when deciding what to wear. In general, whether you're dressing up or dressing casual, dressing for a high school reunion requires that you pay attention to two things:
Don't dress in a way that you typically don't because dressing to impress will leave you feeling like you're wearing a costume, and you won't be comfortable or at ease. This includes buying expensive new outfits and wearing them to the reunion for the first time. You'll give off an air of being ill at ease, and that will translate to how you speak to people.
Don't choose worn-out clothes or things past their prime – this is not the time for your favorite jeans with the hole in the back – but do choose items that you know suit you well and that feel like “yours.”
As mentioned above, don't wear something that looks sloppy or is filled with holes. Dressing with care means that while you're not trying to put on a show, you do want to look respectable, neat and tidy. Remember that you're making an impression on people, and the fanciness of your clothes won't tell them much, but how well-groomed you are will say a lot, and grooming extends to the condition of your clothing.
