David Oglivy

Oglivy made a very distinct name for himself, as he has been dubbed the "Father of Advertising." His advertising was based on consumer research. He was a very well known advertising executive, in addition to a successful copywriter. He was born on June 23, 1911, and passed away a little over a decade ago on July 21, 1999.

William Bernbach

Bernbach was one of the three founders of the international advertising agency known as Doyle Dane Bernbach. He was a major force in both the copywriter arena and in the field of teaching creative team structures, many of which are still used today. Under his direction, several advertising slogans were created including We Try Harder for Avis Car Rental, Mikey for Life Cereal.

Robert W. Bly

Robert W. Bly, better known as Bob Bly is alive and well. He is known for his copywriting and his Internet marketing strategies, and he has a website dedicated to his work. He has written a series of books on copywriting, offers services and programs that help people to learn how to become better copywriters themselves.

Leo Burnett

This individual was a major force in the world of copywriting. He was also involved in marketing, and his company believes that their approach must serve the public, and that the situation is not the other way around. He was responsible for the creation of several advertising spokespeople including the Maytag repairman and the Jolly Green Giant.

Dorothy L. Sayers

Born in 1893, Sayers was a prominent copywriter of the first half of the 20th century. In addition to that discipline, she also excelled and was well known in the fields of crime writing, Christian humanism, poetry, drama, translation, and essays.

Joseph Heller

You may very well have heard of the famous Catch-22. This novel was indeed written by Joseph Heller. He is an example of a person who was a great copywriters, and also extremely successful in another field as well. Heller is more well known for this novel than for his copywriting.

Salman Rushdie

One of the most well known copywriters on our list of all time greatest copywriters is Salman Rushie. Have you ever read or heard of the Satantic Verses? Well, he is the author of that piece which has receive a lot of fame and acclaim in recent years.

Don DeLillo

Here we have another person who is both a famous copywriter and a famous author of our time. In the 1980's, DeLillo wrote White Noise, which is a very intriguing novel that is often taught in college courses today.

Shigesato Itoi

Itoi is one of the most influential cultural figures from Japan, and he is predominantly known for his copywriting. However, Itoi had another great development. He is, in fact, the creator of Nintendo-the video game system which ushered in a whole new wave of gaming fanatics.

Herschell Gordon Lewis

Lewis started off his career as a filmmaker, and he has received the title of the "Godfather of Gore" for his explicitly graphic horror films. However, later on in his life, he turned to the role of copywriter.
