Where Can You Go to Get Help with an Addiction to Marijuana?

Whether it is you or someone that you love who is suffering, the first step is asking where can you go to get help with an addiction to marijuana. Knowing that you need to get help is very important, because it shows that you are aware that a problem exists.

You have several places you can go to in order to get help for a marijuana addiction. They include:

  • Drug rehabilitation centers
  • Doctors
  • Therapists
  • School counselors

Drug Rehabilitation Center

The best place for you to go would be a drug rehabilitation center. Yes, it will take some courage and strength to check yourself in; however, when you come out, you will have had the best tools and resources provided to help you prevent the addiction from returning.

Many of these types of rehabilitation centers have both in patient and out patient treatment programs. You will most likely have a discussion with someone over what type of option is best for you. An out patient program would mean that you go in for meetings, but you do not live at the facility. If you are in an in patient program, then you will stay-and live-there throughout the entire course of your treatment.

If you are afraid to go without having any idea of what you are talking into, give the local rehabilitation center a ring before you go in and ask some of your questions then.

While a drug rehabilitation center is the absolute best option that you could find, maybe you are not ready for that step just yet. If that is the case, we will provide you with some more resources to which you can turn. They will be able to give you more information about the type of help that you need, and to help you figure out a long term treatment for your marijuana addiction.

Doctor

Your personal doctor is not going to be able to give you treatment for a marijuana addiction. However, when there are problems concerning your health, your regular doctor is the best person with whom you can start the conversation. He or she knows your body, and will be able to point you in the direction of a professional who can counsel you or help you out with the problem that you are having.

Therapist

Physical addictions to marijuana are quite rare - if not impossible. In fact, we only say "quite rare" and not impossible, because you never know what future research will show in time. However, people can become psychologically dependent upon the drug. Therefore, speaking with a therapist might be a positive solution.

For example, maybe there are psychological reasons which keep you returning to the drug. Working with a therapist can help you to get those feelings out in the air. Talking about the problems which you are having is an alternative to turning toward any sort of drug.

School Counselor

If you are a student using drugs and you feel that you have a marijuana addiction, you have a number of resources available at your fingertips. Schools generally have some sort of counseling system in place. Please note that the counselor is not going to be able to cure your drug addiction, and he or she is not necessarily going to be able to keep the information private, as some other professionals might be able to do.

However, you will be in your own school - your comfort zone - and you will be able to start getting your feelings out there to the guidance counselor.
