How Many Rings Does Uranus Have?

How many rings does Uranus have? Uranus has one single ring. The answer is not very impressive; however, just because Uranus doesn't have a lot of rings, doesn't mean that the planet isn't special. In fact, even its one ring has some distinctive features.  So, lets learn more about the Uranus ring and what makes that ring distinctive and unique as compared to the moons of other planets.

The planet Uranus stands out among all the other planets due to its system of moons and the ring that surrounds the planet.

Although Saturn has many rings and so does Jupiter, we know that the planet Uranus has only one ring. This ring surrounds the planet, just like the rings of Saturn and Jupiter do, but the ring is special in the fact that it looks as if the ring is partial or arced at all times. Thus, although Uranus only has one ring, that ring is one of the distinctive features that we think about when we think about Uranus.

Moons of Uranus

Another element that makes the planet Uranus unique is its moons. While we know that Uranus has only one ring, the planet has a total of 27 moons around the planet.

The moons of Uranus, in order, include:

  • Cordelia
  • Ophelia
  • Bianca
  • Cressida
  • Desdemona

Icy Moons of Uranus

Some of these moons are known as icy moons. These icy moons have special features on their surface that make them extremely unique in appearance. The icy moons also have no atmosphere or magnetosphere. The moons possess no possibility of life and they are not active.

The icy moons of Uranus include:

  • Miranda
  • Ariel
  • Umbriel
  • Titania
  • Oberon
  • Caliban
  • Sycorax

New Moons of Uranus

  • Prospero
  • Setebos
  • Stephano
  • 1986 U 10
