How to Calculate P Value

Do you know how to calculate P value?   Determining the P-value, or the probability value, is a mathematical process. It is used to determine the probability of some aspect of a mathematical equation.

Knowing how to calculate a P-value is especially important when working in statistics and for application to hypothesis testing.

• In any hypothesis test that you take or that you are evaluating data from, there is an element referred to as a null hypothesis.
• This hypothesis states that there isn’t a notable difference in the two statistical populations.
• There is also an alternative hypothesis, which states that there is a notable difference between the two statistical populations
• The difference between the two figures is how you come to your P-value.

The Process of Calculating P Value

To calculate P value:

• First, you reference the farthest-left column in the table on your T-distribution chart in order to find the degrees of freedom that match your table’s T-value.
• Then, you use that row to find your T-value by following the row to the right, starting from the farthest left.
• When you find your matching T-value, you follow that row straight up to the top of the chart, finding the two different subscripts for that T-value.
• One of the subscripts refers to the degrees of freedom (k), and the other is that T-value’s quantile.
• Finding your P-value comes from subtracting the T-value’s quantile from 1.
