United States Population Density

Now that you know how many miles it is across the United States, you may also want some other statistical facts and figures about the U.S.:

  • The average population density of the United States is estimated to be about eighty people per square mile, since the U.S. has a current population of almost three hundred million people.
  • Much of the U.S. population is concentrated in or near the major cities like Los Angeles, Houston, and New York, so there are still large portions of the United States which are sparsely inhabited or are uninhabitable because they are national parks or wildlife preservation areas.
  • The United States began as a nation when it was colonized by Great Britain and other countries in the 1600s, but it did not become its own nation until 1776, when independence was declared and war was waged with Great Britain for the country to become independent. It initially consisted of only 13 states.

A wide variety of territory existed to the west of those original 13 states. This territory was unexplored and inhabited by Indians and wildlife. Today, however, the U.S. has been explored from border to border and we now know how many miles it is across the United States.
