The bacteria anthrax, or B. anthracis, can occur in three different forms. Each type of form has the same affects on a human being or an animal and is potentially deadly without quick diagnosis and treatment. Anthrax can be transmitted in three different ways. These ways include:
- Cutaneously: Anthrax spores enter through the pores of the skin and into the blood stream of the infected individual
- Inhalation: Anthrax spores can be present in aerosol form and then inhaled. This is what makes this bacteria a potentially fatal biological weapon
- Gastrointestinal: An animal that has been infected with the anthrax bacteria and then eaten can transfer the infection to those that eat the animal through the gastrointestinal system
