What Grass Will Grow Anywhere?

If you have land that is not conducive to growth, one of the greatest gardening dilemmas can be learning what grass will grow anywhere. Of course, there are always places where nothing at all will grow. Still, there are certain hardy forms of grass that will grow almost anyplace. So, what are some examples of grasses that will grow just about anywhere?

So, what grass will grow anywhere... or almost anywhere? There are many different grass breeds that are considered “hardy”, which means that they are resilient and have the ability to grow in most conditions and climes.

  • Kentucky Bluegrass, for instance, is often referred to as “America’s Grass,” because even though its name implies a state-bound tolerance, it is hardy enough to have its seed take root in almost any area of the continent.
  • There are also new strains of grass that are referred to as hybrid strains, which boast the ability to grow under the harshest of conditions, regardless of the soil they are planted in, or the climate they must endure.

Hybrid Grasses

Hybrid grasses, which boast that they are grasses that will grow anywhere, don’t typically go by their given strain names or genus names because they are often scientifically engineered. Instead they go by brand names that refer to the company that has either designed the product or to the company that has bought the product from a scientific development firm.

  • Brands such as “Amazing Grass,” “Zoysia Grass,” and the highly popular “Perfect Patch” all boast that they are able to take root under any conditions, even in cases where pet urine has rendered the soil inhabitable to plant life because of the concentrated ammonia levels from the pet’s waste.
  • These products are often used as a “patching” solution however, and not in cases where a homeowner or landscaper needs to seed an entire lawn.

The bag or container the hybrid grass seed comes in should state the amount of area it will cover sufficiently when it’s spread evenly, as well as the fertilizer makeup that best suits that type of grass seed.

  • Along with this information, the container should also state the climate zones, the areas and environmental conditions in which that particular grass thrives the most easily, and the amount of water and fertilizer the grass will need to successfully provide the desired cover.
  • If the conditions stated on the grass container are not the type of conditions that you can readily provide in your environment, another type of grass should be considered that will be more apt to growing and flourishing in the naturally provided conditions that are available where the grass will be planted.

So, these are some possible answers to what grass will grow almost anywhere. However, because of the fact that plant life in general must be of a certain breed and temperament to be able to survive in conditions such as those in the desert or arctic, there isn’t any one type of grass that will literally grow anywhere.
