Who Discovered the Constellation Pisces?

Who discovered the constellation Pisces? The constellation was discovered so long ago, we don't really know exactly who discovered it. However, there is reason to believe that the ancient Greeks were the ones who discovered the constellation Pisces.

Many people believe that the ancient Babylonians were the civilization that discovered all of the zodiac constellations; however, there is no recorded Babylonian mention of Pisces. There is some indication that the ancient Greeks were the ones who discovered the constellation Pisces.

  • According to the first myth that records the existence of the constellation, the two fish that make up the constellation Pisces are said to be the representation of Aphrodite and Eros, who plunged into the River Euphrates in an attempt to escape the wrath of the fire God, Typhon.
  • The mother and son were transformed by two fish, Pisces, as a means of protecting them from the fire god. In turn, the fish earned themselves a place in the heavens, tethered at the rear fins to ensure that they would never be separated from each other’s side.
  • This myth, first told by the Greeks, is the first reference to Pisces that is recorded.
