What Are Super Bowl Related Trophies and Awards?

Before the Super Bowl comes around this year, you might want to brush up on the answer to what are Super Bowl related trophies and awards. Doing so might enable you to have better discussions with the people around you.

There are three primary awards and trophies distributed at the end of the Super Bowl. They are the:

Super Bowl Ring

Like other sports, there is an award given to every single member of whatever team wins the Super Bowl. In the case of the National Football League, the members of the winning team are given Super Bowl rings.

The National Football League will pay for 150 of these rings, which tend to cost around $500 per ring. You might be confused as to why they get so many. Well, it is not only the players who are recipients of the rings. Coaches, trainers, personal staff, and so forth can also get rings. Furthermore, sometimes there will be a player who is not on the roster, but used to be. That individual may get a ring as well. The team can distribute the rings to whomever they want; however, if the total goes over 150 rings, they must pay for them.

The rings usually have diamonds on them and they are made out of gold - whether it be yellow gold or white gold. The team name, team logo, and the Super Bowl number are inscribed on the rings. The number of the Super Bowl, written in Roman numerals, is written on the rings.

Vince Lombardi Trophy

The Vince Lombardi trophy is another award for the team that wins the Super Bowl every year. The award started being presented in 1967, and was named the "Vince Lombardi" trophy in 1970, after the head coach of the Green Bay Packers passed away suddenly from cancer.

This incredible trophy takes approximately four months to construct every year. It is a football in a kicking position, and it is made entirely out of sterling silver from Tiffany & Company. In fact, the trophy is valued at approximately $50,000.

Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award

As in other sports, the most valuable player of the game is decided upon and awarded after the actual game is over. Sometimes, viewers and fans will have a decent idea of who it will be just from watching the game. At other times, they might be surprised by the choice because a couple of players did extremely well in the Super Bowl.

Traditionally, a panel of 16 football broadcasters and journalists would vote after the game. However, in 2001, a fan vote is considered as well. The fan vote - calculated during the game - counts for 20% of the overall vote, while the panel of experts counts for 80% of the vote. You are generally able to vote both over the telephone and Internet; therefore, if you are interested in voting for the person who you think played best, pay attention to the contact information during this year's Super Bowl!

From looking at these various Super Bowl awards and trophies, you can see that a lot of time, energy, and money goes into honoring those individuals who compete well in this annual sporting event.
