How To Change Wireless Settings

Wondering how to change wireless settings?   When you’re connected to the Internet through your household’s wireless gateway, sometimes you need to alter the way in which your wireless router works or the way in which your computer communicates with the router. In other cases, you might be in a public environment that provides free wi-fi to everyone within broadcasting range but you may need to change your wireless settings in order to be able to locate or access wireless networks.

Changing your wireless settings is a relatively simple process that may use technical jargon, but isn't all that technical.  Just follow these basic steps for how to change wireless settings:

  • If you are using Windows, then in your toolbar at the bottom right of your screen, there should be an icon that displays whether or not you are currently connected to any internet gateway.
  • When you click on the icon, it will open a small window that allows you to open your network sharing center.
  • This "center" allows you to diagnose and repair your network settings.
  • From the network and sharing center, you can also manage your wireless networks, which allows you to view and change the statuses of the network devices that your computer utilizes.
  • If you are using a Mac, on the other hand, then you will need to go up to the top right corner of your screen and click on the set of four rounded bars that indicates your Internet signal.
  • Once you've clicked on the bars, you should be presented with a pulldown menu. From the menu, select the menu item called "Open Network Preferences."
  • You can then adjust your settings from within that menu.

Now you know how to change wireless settings on both a PC and a Mac.
