Are you interested in learning how to go about troubleshooting a Wii? The Wii is one of the most popular game systems today. Manufactured by Nintendo, the game system uses a new type of technology where the user is essentially the controller. Characters on the screen respond to the movement of the users through a bar that detects movement as the player moves the controller. Like all other gaming systems though, the Wii will not work perfectly all the time forever. At some point your Wii system will probably go down and you will need to fix it. However, before sending it off to Nintendo for a repair, you should do some things to troubleshoot the problem to make sure it is not something simple you can fix easily yourself rather than paying a lot of money for the repair.
There are a number of different ways troubleshoot a Wii. Here are a few troubleshooting methods for some of the most common problems you might face:
Lack of Power
If your Wii is not getting any power, here are a few answers to how to troubleshoot the Wii:
- If your Wii goes out of commission and has no power, check the AC adapter.
- You will want to make sure that it is plugged securely into both the back of the gaming system and into a power outlet.
- If the plugs are secure and your system still has no power before packing it up and shipping it off to Nintendo, unplug all of the power sources from their ports and outlets.
- Once you have everything unplugged wait 60 seconds and then plug the system back in.
- If there is still no power odds are something is wrong internally and you will need to send it to Nintendo.
Lack of Picture
If you have lost the picture for your Wii system, you should check a couple of things before you ship off your Wii for repair:
- Check all the connections at the wall and at the back of the console.
- If all the connections are tight, then you should check to make sure that your VCR, DVD player or your television is on the right channel.
- If you have done all of this and still do not have a picture, there is probably a larger problem and your console will need a repair from Nintendo.
Disc Issues
The Wii console games operate through discs and part of how to troubleshoot your Wii is to make sure you aren't having any problems with the discs themselves.
- If you find that your game is skipping or the system is not reading the disc you should check the actual disc before deciding that it is the game console itself.
- If the disc has any scratches on it or it is dirty in any way the system will not read the game.
- Clean the disc off with a soft rag and then try the disc again or try different game.
- If the console reads the disc or if it reads another game, it is the disc and not the console.
Sensor Problems
Another common problem with the Wii system is with the sensor bar that is used to detect the movement of the user through the Wii controller.
- If you find that your sensor bar is having trouble detecting a signal from your Wii remote, you should try a few things before thinking there is a problem with the sensor bar.
- First, you should make sure that the sensor bar is at least three to eight feet away from the controller.
- Second, you should make sure that no electronics are interfering with the signal in any way.
- If that does not work and there is still a problem, you should try re-syncing the remote by following the instructions in the manual to do so.
So, now you know how to go about troubleshooting a Wii and hopefully you will be back to gaming in no time.
