How Do I Put an RSS Feed on My Web Page?

An RSS feed can be useful if you have a number of individuals following your website, or if you frequently post new messages, articles, pictures, links, or videos. Yet, what exactly is a RSS feed, and how do I put one on my web page?

The simplest way to put an RSS feed onto your website is to purchase a product (or download one for free) that allows you to do so. This is easier because the other alternatives involve adding code to your website.

You can search for them through the Internet, and read the different reviews for them.

For example:

  • You can locate scripts on the Internet that allow you to put the content onto your website. If you find a script that is compatible with your website, you can put the feed that you want to update into the URL and it operates as a RSS feed.
  • You can also use CaRP to add a RSS feed to your site. CaRP is, also known as the Common Address Redundancy Protocol, is a type of Internet protocol that allows a number of different hosts to share a set of IP addresses. If you use CaRP to add a RSS feed to your website, you simply have to upload to necessary compatible files with CaRP.

After you add additional information to your website, you can just follow the instructions for how to add feed to your website.

What Is a RSS Feed

A RSS feed, also known as Really Simple Syndication Feed, is a group of web feed formats. These web feed formats are used to circulate recently and regularly updated aspects of your website. However, the web feed formats standardize these regularly updated parts of your website.

The actual RSS feed is a document that includes a summarized (or the complete) text of what has been updated, along with dates and the author who updated it. RSS feeds help both the authors of the website, as well as the users. The users can be easily informed when their favorite websites are updated, and the authors can inform their users when they have added new material and content to the website.

Different Versions of RSS

As of 2010, there are two major versions of RSS. These two major branches then also include a number of sub versions. The two major branches are the RDF (also known as the RSS 1.*) and the RSS 2.*.

The RDF includes the following sub versions of the RSS: RSS 0.90, RSS 1.0, and RSS 1.1.

The RSS 2.* includes the RSS 0.91*, the RSS 0.92, the RSS 0.93, the RSS 0.04, and the RSS 2.01.

Description of an RSS Reader

If you’ve been researching RSS, then you most likely have come across the term “RSS Reader.” A RSS reader is a type of software that reads RSS feeds. RSS feeds are not always easy to read because sometimes they are in JavaScript. You can download a RSS reader from the Internet.

A number of different websites offer free RSS readers. While some of the readers you have to purchase, you can download free RSS readers. The readers can then be added to your website using the instructions that come with your RSS reader. Furthermore, they allow you to read almost any RSS feed.
