Some people would say that your birthday reveals nothing about your personality, but others would say that when you were born has a lot to do with who you are. The exact time and place of your birth is important in astrology.

Astrology is an ancient science still practiced today. Using your exact time and date of your birth, you calculate where the sun and moon were located when you were born. This gives you your Sun and moon signs.

People are most familiar with their Sun sign, which indicates who you are deep down at your core and represents your character. Astrologers believe that all celestial bodies have influence over our lives. This is determined by which sign of the zodiac the sun was in at the time of birth.   

Your moon sign represents your emotional motivations, and affects your personality. Astrologers believe the moon can affect you similarly to how it affects the tides. Your moon sign is based on the moon’s position in the zodiac at the time of your birth. 

Your rising sign, or ascendant sign, is the sign of the zodiac that was rising in the east at the exact moment of your birth. Due to the Earth’s rotation, your rising sign will move up one degree every four minutes. Every 30 degrees, a new sign will appear and become the new rising sign for that time. Your place of birth is important to determine your latitude and longitude.

Your rising sign consists of the traits that make up your personality, or the way you act. Of the three signs: sun, moon and rising, this is the one that determines your personality. So, astrologically speaking, your rising sign plays a major part in finding what your birthday may reveal about your personality.

The zodiac consists of 12 constellations that are equally spaced along the Sun’s path, or ecliptic, in the sky. The dates are represented for the Sun signs, but the characteristics are applicable to all signs.

Since the constellations were mostly named after animals, the Greeks named it “zodiakos kyklos” or “animal circle.
